GCHERA Forum was held on Sept. 21, 2015 in NJAU

After the GCHERA World Dialogue “Education and Innovation in Agricultural and Life Sciences: Global Leadership to Meet the Challenges of 21st Century” and The 15th China Agriculture and Forestry University Presidents Forum (CAFUPF), the international participants continued their discussion by hosting the GCHERA Forum on the morning of Sept. 21.

On the forum, representatives from oversea agro-related higher education institutions and associations shared their experiences and practices in curriculum reform and innovations in order to develop talents that meet the needs of 21st Century. John KENNELLY (President of GCHERA) chaired the forum. Daniel SHERRARD (President of Earth University , Costa Rica)  introduced “From Discussion to Action – A Change Agenda for Higher Education in Agriculture”

 

Carolyn GLYNN(from Association for European Life Science Universities & Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences) discussed ”SLU-Agrinatura-ICA-GCHERA, Integrating levels of dedication”


Arjen WALS (from Wageningen University, the Netherlands) had a vedio presentaion on ”Developing Sustainability Competence and 21st Century Capacities through Transformative Agricultural Education”

 

Enrico SUPANGCO(from Asian Association of Agricultural Colleges and Universities (AAACU)) introduced his experiences in "Strengthening University-Industry Partnerships: The Case of the UPLB College of Agriculture Satellite Campus in Mindanao, Philippines"

 

Fernando Cezar JULIATTI (from Brazilian Association for Higher Agricultural Education (ABEAS) ) shared “Fifty five years for improving the Curricula for the Superior Education and innovation approaches to Brazilian Agricultural development”

 

Richard HARPER(from Australian Council of Deans of Agriculture (ACDA) ) discussed ”Recent trends in Australian tertiary agricultural science education”

 

Bing SI (from Association of Canadian Faculties of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine (ACFAVM)) had a brief introduction on his association.

 

Elgasim Ali ELGASIM, Society of Arab Colleges of Agriculture (SACA) shared ”Standard Reference Academic Benchmarks for Higher Educational Programs Compatible in the Arab Colleges of Agriculture”

 

David ACKER(fromAssociation of Public and Land-Grant Universities (APLU)) introduced  "Curriculum Reform and Innovation in U.S. Colleges of Agriculture, Food and Related Sciences"

 

Alim PULATOV, Central Asia and South Caucasus Consortium of Agricultural Universities for Development (CASCADE) had a brief introduction on his association.

 

Nabil Nemer(fromHoly Spirit University of Kaslik (HSUK)) provided ” Insights Inside the Lebanese Agriculture”

 

LIU Zhimin (from Education Professional Committee (EPC), of the Chinese Association of Agricultural Science Societies (CAASS) (EPC of CAASS) introduced ”The Reforms and Innovations in Constructing the Curriculum System of Chinese Agro-related Universities”

 

Riksh Pal SINGH(from Indian Agricultural Universities Association (IAUA)) shared the ”History and Present Status in Course Curricula Reforms in Indian Agricultural Universities: Attracting Students for Job Opportunities and Entrepreneurship”

 

Simon HEATH (fromAssociation for European Life Science Universities (ICA) ) discussed ”Issues in Curriculum Development in Europe”

 

Moses OSIRU(from Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM)) provided ”Innovations in postgraduate curriculum development: The Case of RUFORUM”

 

Margaret LININGTON (from South African Agriculture and Life Sciences Deans Association (SAALSDA)) introduced “Agricultural education in South Africa”

                                              

Speakers from GCHERA Forum

 

After the speeches, the GCHERA Board/General Assembly, which had their first meeting on Sept. 19, continued their discussions on GCHERA Action Plan in the afternoon of Sept. 21 in NJAU, China.

 

The meeting reviewed the presentations from keynote speakers in the last two days, and had further discussions on the development of GCHERA Action Plan 2016-20. The meeting also discussed the time & location of the 2016 GCHERA WAP and World Dialogue. Elgasim Ali ELGASIM(Society of Arab Colleges of Agriculture (SACA)) has been elected as the new member of Steering Committee.
