GCHERA at GCARD3 – Outcomes
John Kennelly, President of GCHERA, with several members of the GCHERA Steering Committee, Ian Maw, Moses Osiru, Didier Pillot and MC Varshneya, represented GCHERA at the 3rd Global Conference on Agricultural Research for Development (GCARD3) in Johannesburg, South Africa from 5 to 8 April.
The GCARD3 Outcome Statement highlights the following goals which challenge GCHERA’s Higher Education Association members and their constituent member universities and faculties to deliver.
1. One thousand additional PhDs per year in next-generation, future-relevant agricultural research,
2. A higher-educational reform across a 100 universities over five continents that combines multi-disciplinary training in agriculture-related sciences, with skills in leadership, entrepreneurship, interpersonal relations and team-building, and
3. Continuing professional development in agriculture for innovation and entrepreneurship in agricultural practices, products and services.
These outcomes are in line with GCHERA’s Action Plan 2016-20 and the GCHERA Steering Committee will continue discussions with potential funders to support GCHERA meet these challenges set by GCARD3.
