GCHERA announces the 2015 World Agriculture Prize

At the opening ceremony of the GCHERA Conference 2015 at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik, Lebanon it was announced that the GCHERA World Agriculture Prize 2015 will be awarded to Professor R Paul Singh, world-renowned food scientist and agricultural engineer. 

   The GCHERA World Agricultural Prize Award Ceremony will take place at Nanjing Agricultural University, China on 20 September 2015 and will be followed by the International Seminar and World Dialogue on Education and Innovation in Agriculture and Life Sciences, “Global leadership to meet the challenges of 21C” September 20 & 21.  

     Prof. Singh earned a bachelor's degree in agricultural engineering at India's Punjab Agricultural University, then a master's degree and Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Michigan State University, respectively. Prof. Singh has held a number of senior appointments during his 40 year career. He gained a BS from Punjab Agricultural University in 1970 before moving to the USA to earn an MS from University of Wisconsin, Madison, and a PhD in 1974 from Michigan State University in Agricultural Engineering. Since 1975, he has held positions at Michigan State University and several at the University of California, Davis. He is a Fellow of the International Academy of Food Science and Technology, of the Institute of Food Technologists and of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE). He is also an elected member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering. Since 2005, he has served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Food Engineering.

     Prof. Singh is a recipient of the ASABE Massey-Ferguson Educational Gold Medal and the Kishida International Award, a Lifetime Achievement Award of the International Association of Engineering and Food, the Nicholas Appert Award of the Institute of Food Technologists among others.

     Prof. Singh is internationally recognized for his influence in and outstanding contributions to food science, and biological and agricultural engineering education, research, development, consulting, and technology transfer programs worldwide.
